Too Much Fun in Singapore

August 11th, 2005

Now I can die happy. Last weeks press conference to announce the release of the world’s first “true” laser gaming mouse was the culmination of 7 years of input device history. There are no words in the English language to describe how the Copperhead came out. The only single word I can think of is “perfect”.

I have hoped that one day that Razer could and would create the perfect mouse and on August 4th 2005 a special group of about 100 world press and distributors were on hand in Singapore to witness this groundbreaking proclamation.

The Copperhead® will be a landmark product for Razer and while it might look like the Diamondback it is quite different. The Copperhead does not replace the Diamondback and the feel and performance between the two is quite different. Some of our fans have already criticized us for introducing one technology on top of another. This is true but how is this any different than say a new processor or video card? Isn’t the important issue to achieve the greatest potential in performance and maximize the enjoyment of your chosen game? There is a mouse war going on and our competitors are hard at work to keep up with Razer’s history and reputation for product development and advanced technology.

Unfortunately for our competitors we have aced them once again. There are features in the new Copperhead that make the competition’s products obsolete before they hit the retail floor.

I’m not going to make this blog a commercial for the Copperhead, however I do suggest that you take the time to review the list of unique features through our site, or through Razer Blueprints or through Gamespot.

Speaking of Gamespot, Sarju Shah was one of the key US press writers attending the event in Singapore. There is a photo of him interviewing me just after the press announcement. After the event most of the attendees joined us on a Night Safari of the Singapore Zoo – one of our favorite places – and a visit to the snake pit to say hi to our adopted Diamondback (no we did not adopt a Copperhead … yet). Anyway, Sarju opted to pass on the zoo excursion and retreated to his hotel room to write and post the initial review of the Copperhead. His conscientiousness paid off when at 3:00 am Singapore time he scooped the world that very night and announced and I quote, “Internally, the Copperhead is without a doubt the most sophisticated mouse we’ve ever come across”.

We also had another major announcement at the press conference that Razer had signed to be one of the major sponsors of the World Cyber Games (WCG) for the second straight year. The Copperhead will be the official mouse of the WCG along with the upcoming Tarantula keyboard and the Piranha headset (additional information to come on both of these new products soon). It is certainly gratifying that both the WCG and the CPL have recognized Razer’s leadership in gaming peripherals and our long-term involvement and support of gamers, and have subsequently assigned “official status” on our products over our competitors’. These are the top two tour events in the world and Razer is proud as punch to be associated with them. They are like the Olympics and Super Bowl of gaming events and both are blazing the way to making eSports national and internationally accepted mainstream sports.

Gamers around the world should support both leagues with your interest and attendance. These are the best shows in the world of entertainment! Last October Razerguy had the privilege of attending the WCG Finals in San Francisco. What a great show … professionally managed and set up for the players’ maximum enjoyment. Too bad not enough fans showed up to support the gamers representing nearly 70 countries.

One of the main reasons to hold this landmark press conference in Singapore is that the 2005 WCG Finals will be held there November 16 through 20. Naturally Razer and Razerguy will be on hand for this momentous event … will you?

Look, these are the biggest and best gaming events the world have ever seen, so get off your butts, save your money (stop buying WOW gold) and get with the program. Show your support for the big tour events, show up and root your preferred players, teams and games. The sponsors of these events want to see you there. We (all the sponsors) want to meet you and listen to your ideas, wants and product needs. We want to see more sponsors from all over the world get behind gaming to the degree that they can help to grow our sport, our image and let the world know that gaming is a healthy, acceptable endeavor for the masses. By showing your support more of the mainstream press will attend these events and more people will hear the positive stories about gamers, gaming and the people that make up the sport.

Last week I reported to you on the CPL Summer event in Dallas … another incredibly entertaining and well run event. Everyone attending witnessed the best in competition and a very well run and entertaining event. Tomorrow we will be at Quakecon and the week after Game Conference in Leipzig Germany. Please show up, come by the Razer booth and say hi. Make plans to support these events and help us drive eSports to where they belong … as mainstream entertainment for the masses. We need to unite as a nation of gamers with a purpose and a mutual goal for acceptance and prestige.

Remember the WCG Finals and that Singapore is an amazing city … the prices for food, accommodations and transportation are still a bargain. There is so much good nightlife and shopping that you will have one of the most memorable times of your life. Besides, you can always visit the Singapore Zoo and say hi to our adopted Diamondback, future adoptee Copperhead and tell them their foster dad said to say hi.

So to recap this weeks blog … Razerguy can die happy … Copperhead will be the BOMB … all other mice will suck in comparison … WCG is the Olympics of gaming … support big international gaming events … Singapore rocks. Out.

what about the new mouse coming out from Logitech? How will the Copperhead surpass the G7. It supposably runs in the 2.7 ghtz area.
I have been waiting for the Copperhead ever since i heard of it (that would be sinec july).

  2. Gareth Walters Says:

The Copperhead looks amazing, I cant wait to try it…
Good luck to the continuing success of your company.

  3. Ice Says:

Singapore does rock. Esp the food. You gotta try the hainanese chicken rice! My personal fave. Haha.

Waiting eagerly for the launch of Copperhead so i can get my hands on them.

  4. Spirit-of-Game.eVo`X Says:

    nice job robert.

  5. TBAPb Says:

“WCG is the Olympics of gaming” lolz WCG drops games like q3 and ut2004 in favor of FIFA,CS and NFS… WCG is a “special olympics” of gaming!

  6. Arttak Says:

Could someone tell me when is the release day for the Copperhead??????????

Am gonna turn on rock just waiting… WHEN IS THE RELEASE DAY?????

  7. Razerguy Says:
Obviously you have not attended one of the WCG Finals. They are entertainment events with a great international flavor. If you don’t agree with their selection of titles you are certainly welcome to your opinion, however it seems to me that other big tours have also dropped Q3 and have not supported UT due to its relatively small base of popularity.
  8. Clisk Says:

in response to Arthur, the 2.7 GHz is for the Wireless… and it is a 2.4GHz signal, not 2.7. the Sensor will be 500Hz on the Logitech as far as i know… and logitech mice are known to SUCK big time for response time. I know my MX700, MX500, MX510 and MX518 are just total crap for response time. Heck even my OLD Microsoft IntelliExplorer 1.0 wireless had a better response time than any Logitech, and we are talking about a 5years old mouse.

Anyways as soon as I can get my hands on a Copperhead I will… been too long since i’ve owned a Razer mouse… last one being an old Boomslang… years ago…which broke cause my bro tossed it on a darn wall *shrug*

  9. OMG Says:

Well Im curious too. Logitech seems to have an insider in your firm or something. :D Everytime you make an advance inmouse technology, there U have it, logitech doing the same and with completely same specs (and Diamondback, MX518 had identical sensors LMAO). Logitech won in the end cause its ergonomy was supperior. BTW I own Diamondback plasma, and gonna buy Copperhead as soon as it becomes available. But I was tempted by the Logitech cause it offered same precision and everything else + it had great ergonomy for the hand (specificaly thumb rest and REACHABLE side buttons). I really hope new Copperhead will have new side buttons that are reachable more easy and press sensors arent so stiff to press.

Overall I love the technology you pioneer everytime you usher a new product. Just please pay more attention to your competitors, cause i really dont want razer to be beaten by a $$$ firm like Logitech. ($$$ = monopolist).

Please answer the question,. is new Logitech mouse the same in technology excell as copperhead? Have they beat you in your own game even before the product is lunched?

And whats with the claim TRUE laser and FIRST LASER MOUSE? Isnt DIODE laser,.. a Laser all the same?

  10. Gung Says:

Im definetly waiting for the Copperhead to come out. Ill be ordering one for my birthday for sure.
Ive been on the razer site a few times and am still trying to find an official release date for the copperhead.

  11. Desolate_One Says:

I’m hanging for the release date [as is every other razer fan!], can we have at least an approx. timing of the release?

  12. Arttak Says:

Thats what am talking about… I cant find an official release date for the Razer Copperhead….

I find in one website that said that it was release on August 22th, and we all know that didnt happen that way..

In other website sais that it will release on October 1st, and other that on August but not specify a date…

So.. When is gonna be a oficial release date???

  13. Qiu Says:

I think wire mouse is better the wirless mouse they respone better..

I am a owner of you Diamondback, and i very happy with it..

I wish i can have your Copperhead but then again..

    Your Copperhead is too Expansive!!

  14. -=BDK=-DarkPhalanx Says:

I’m personally looking forward to the release date for the Copperhead. I, as well as quite a few of my squadmates have purchased the Razer Diamondback Salamander and Plasma editions (I have both, just because….lol). You guys put out top-notch products, and I look forward to adding the Copperhead to my arsenal of tools. -=BDK=- is involved in CAL and the TWL organizations and hopefully soon, the CPL as well. We recommend your product to anyone that asks because it really does seperate the great players from the wannabes. Please keep up the awesome work and pushing out the great products. I’ll be ready to pick up a Copperhead as soon as the release date is announced. Cheers.

  15. Jforsyth1 Says:

yeah im waiting eargerly as well. Ive been buying logitechs for a while no, aminly because i was ill-informed by one of my friends about razer. But about a month ago iw as shoopting around ina best buy and felt the diamondback and it felt great. Was just about to get it when I saw the copperhead demo on razerzone.com.

I checked gamespot and for a while they had posted that the copperdead would be released 8/22/05, and now theve changed tehe date to 8/29/05 when they released the official review. So basically, it supposed to be out today (or rather 8/29/05 ended 2 hours ago) but i dont see it on amazon or froogle, razerzone ahsnt changed, and the “checkprices” option tab on gamespot is grey. So im hopin itll be out within a cuple says cuz i just one $150 in that gamespot cs:s torny, and im lookin forward to spendin it.

  16. Aimless Says:

Has anyone seen any release date for the Copperhead before October 1st one? I can’t wait that long. I’m in Europe, but I’ll order from US or Asia if I have to! My Logitech MX700 is on the verge of death.

  17. Y.A Says:

Whats the release date???i cant wait it :( i was going to buy MX 518 but after i saw this mouse i want Copperhead!

  18. Brandon Says:

I heard late august, so i started saving up for the Copperhead. Well, the come and gone. Now i hear another four weeks to go through customs. As with Aimless, my current mouse is almost dead. I am a computer modder and this is my testing mouse. Since i have no mouse left this is what i have to use. Its scratched, sharpied, and has a hole in the back for an LED that never worked. The only thing that does work (lol) is the blue LED i replaced the red one with. It is quite impressing, but it hardly works for games. No mouse feet, and that doesnt fare well with a funcpad.

I cant wait another four weeks for a mouse. Im getting BF2, then Diamondback Plasma from amazon. After that, new sennheiser headphons. All in the time it wouldve taken to wait for the copperhead.

  19. Flaxxxxxx Says:

    So RazerGuy, anythign official??

  20. Arttak Says:

Why is the change of release dates?
Is there someone that really knows what is happen?
or someone that REALLY knows where is gonna be this mouse on the market?
Couse, hey, they said that was release in Asia on August 29th, and i didnt hear anything that confirm that happens…

So.. please.. do someone knows when do this really is gonna be for us?

  21. Razerguy Says:
My good friends and future Copperhead owners … I would love to be able to pick a hard date for delivery of this highly anticipated product (trust me the wait will be worth it), however no one in the world can predict when product will arrive because there are just too many variables outside our control. We do not own or control the ships, aircrafts and trucks that transport our products from the factory. We have absolutely no control over the customs agencies in each country. Like you we are hoping for the best. I will not go on record for any date. Here is a notice I received from our distribution company today:

“In addition to rising fuel charges – a Typhoon has recently hit Taiwan resulting in backlogs (too much cargo – not enough space to get it out). This is expected to cause some airlines to increase current rates. For those of you with current airfreight shipments, we will continue to keep you updated on status.”

Natural disasters will not help to speed up the delivery of the Copperhead. Please be patient … we are trying our best to deliver you the ultimate gaming device. It is not our intent to be vague, but on the other hand we don’t want to be wrong and give you some blue sky answer.

  22. X33R0S Says:

I’m in a dying to get it mode too but I have learned that patience can be your greatest asset (thank you ATI nVIDIA for all the ****** paper launches). Ever since the first time I heard about Razer it was way back and I wanted one but never got it because of two factors one it was expensive and too it NEVER was in stock anywhere (still regret it since I finally used one that my friend has like 2 months ago and just like my Diamondback Plasma it was heavenly).

Point is I can wait only thing I really wanna know is which stores have orders and how much is it expected to be after all the hickups your having?

  23. [DURP]Mase Says:

I have friends in Taiwan. Let me know where and I’ll have them buy it for me.

  24. Hardcore Gamer Says:

Just got my hands on the 1st Edition of Copperhead™ ^_^

Cant wait to try it, so off i go now for some fun.

Can someone kindly gimme the link to where i can register the product for the stated 2 year warranty?

  25. Type-S Says:

Where did you get it? I have friends in Taiwan too. Thanks ;P

  26. xmC].NzXt-NeMeSiS Says:

I want a Copperhead!!!! Im waiting for the realease…..really I’ll sell my $%#^ mx518 and other things to buy a Copperhead….I got one question…Does Razers have like the logitech mouses some mousekates?…and how is the the performance of a razer at a x-raypad Thunder8?

  27. Jforsyth1 Says:

I understand what your saying razerguy. Thanks for giving us all the details you can instead of just a shallow “coming soon” banner that leaves us completly out of the loop.

Now this isnt exactly in response to the topic, but i cant seem to figure out how large of a company razer is. I know theve been fairly long-established in the hardware marker, but does anyone know exactly to what scale they run? It would seem like they would need a strong workforce to put teh research and development into their products in order to compete with Logitech and such, but this razerguy blog seems to be the type of thing you would find with a small business. Any insight on the companies size?

  28. X Says:

its selling in singapore already. 128 sgd

  29. Glenn Fazio Says:

    Hello -

Nothing new I am afraid to say but its now after 10 pm on Monday September 5 and I don’t know where my new Copperhead mouse is! Seriously, I was just lookng for an update on its availability. I had been an early customer for Plasma but I never got one (missed the second request for all info). Please keep me posted of latest info. Can’t wait to get my sweaty little hands on it. Thank you! I am in NYC in US.

  30. Scott Says:

Hmm if they are selling in singapore I would expect them to be on ebay but there isen’t even 1.

  31. xmC].NzXt-NeMeSiS Says:

hows the performance of a razer at a x-raypad thunder8?….does razer has mouseskates?

  32. stan Says:

    Zero-Acoustic Ultraslick™ Teflon feet @ xmC].NzXt-NeMeSiS
This should answer your question of mouseskates… What i’ve read in many testing articles the Copperhead has an amazing performance at nearly ALL mousepads that are on the market for gaming purpose.
You can also look at the details urself @ http://www.razerzone.com/products/products_copperhead.php

  33. Rymel Says:

man, i come to the site all ready to buy a diamonback to compliment the labor day sale parts i bought to FINALLY have a new computer and then i see news of a copperback…finally something to match my hanging-on-a-thread dying boomslang 2000! but alas, no release date…i’m in nyc too, and i can’t WAIT to get my hands on a new razer! especially since mine is currently suffering from bad double-click issues…¬.¬

  34. Scott Says:

Can we get another update on the status of the copperhead shipment? Thanks

  35. Clisk Says:

it seems as though they just posted a notice for QuakeCon attendees saying that the coupons are valid from Sept 26th to Oct 7th… so I guess they are expecting shipment of the Copperhead on or before Sept 26th… could that be right?

    Quote from the QuakeCon message
“Thank you for visiting the Razer booth at QuakeCon 2005!

Unfortunately due to unforseen delays, we have had to modify the effective dates of the Copperhead coupon given out at QuakeCon. The coupon will now be available to use September 26th through October 7th at our online store, store.razerzone.com.

We thank you for your continued support and patience during this time.”

  36. Scott Says:

What does this coupon do? Is it a discount or did you order it at quakecon and then use the coupon online to actual get it?

  37. Clisk Says:

I would say it is a coupon they were giving at their booth at QuakeCon for ones who stopped… and it is likely a discount of some kind for the Copperhead… I was just pointing that perhaps it meant that the Copperhead will be available around Sept 26th… would be a nice thing for me to get my my bday a couple days later ;)

  38. FELIX Says:

I wanna ask that, where can we get the copperhead COUPON?? can someone tell me about the address or link? thx ~~
    im in new york city,

  39. Sybaritegal Says:

Ok- I’ve ordered my Copperhead- and once it arrives, I expect to be a dynamo killing machine. HaHa!

Seriously though, Razerguy, you’ve gotten my heart aflutter with your “upcoming Tarantula keyboard and the Piranha headset (additional information to come on both of these new products soon)” statement above. WHEN?? *impatient female look that men hate*

I note that you seem to be sidling up to the same advertisers as Speed Link (Medusa 5.1 headset) - could you comment whether the Piranha will have similiar design/features? How about some specs on the Tarantula - will it be lighted? what will be special about it? I’m in the market for both of these items and HATE the thought of buying something inferior if Lazer is going to be introducing something in the near future. :)

Looking forward to ALL with great anticipation!

  40. Y.A Says:

man, i just came in today and wanted to order then i see it out of stock :( is there anyway to pre-order it?
    best regards,

  41. Brian Says:

hey, like the Y.A i tried to order one on the 26th but it said sold out, but tonight its back for sale in the store… so i bought one. What does this mean? Do you have any in stock or is this pre-ordering for the next shipment because the description still says “first edition”??

  42. Arttak Says:

May i ask if there is a new date when it si gonna be again in stock?
It is couse as some people i can get it on 26th and i was thinking about when is goona be again in stock….

    Thx

  43. Razerguy Says:
Sure go ahead and ask :)

Sorry couldn’t resist that one. If you are referring to the Copperhead it is in stock at this moment (September 30, 2005).

  44. -=BDK=-DarkPhalanx Says:

Well Razerguy, I’ve recieved my new Razer Copperhead (S/N:08133, thank you very much….lol), and all that I could manage to spill from my lips was OMG!!! The response time blended with Razer’s pinpoint accuracy has been vastly improved with this piece of technological wizardry. Fantastic job on the new mouse guys. I would highly recommend this mouse to ANYBODY who wants the best, and I can say that you won’t be disappointed!! Thank you again.

    DP

  45. Y.A Says:

    Thanks.

  46. Worth of directory Says:
