Forum or Fiction? |

Oh those forums, aren’t they grand? Reading through the multitude of gaming forums is similar to viewing a major car wreck … you simply can’t take your eyes off of it. No matter how much gore and grit you must read on and on and on ….
Then there’s this same guy who shows up on every forum and his name is “anonymous”. This guy hates just about everything and gives us his free opinion on everything from motherboards to motherhood … and free is just about all its worth. Rarely have I ever seen a long string that remains on topic.
It is often difficult to know who is really an expert and who has just jumped into the forum to stir things up or because a friend of a friend heard about this or that. I’m sure that there are many valuable uses for them and many seem harmless enough. No one knows how accurate any open forum is yet we all use them to validate information and ideas.
Over the years Razer products have had their fair share of user forums topics. Most have some value and relevance. Many are highly speculative and some are so technically esoteric that often we don’t even understand them. I do want to comment on one reoccurring topic that IMO needs some clarification.
The topic usually goes something like this, “Razer mice don’t last” or “I like the technology but they don’t last”. We have been seeing comments like this over the past 6-years and while there has been the smoke of truth from the past there has never been a fire. Let me give you a brief history lesson …
The original Boomslang was released in 1999 and over the next several years we sold over 400,000. There were some initial quality control issues with the buttons and the roller assembly and we experienced a 5% return. Admittedly this is high and we were not happy or satisfied with the results. To our credit we replaced every defective unit without question and always attempted to satisfy our customers.
Remember that these were new technology products and that mechanical mice had more oving parts in them than your entire computer. They were subject to some failure. Also know that gamers are a whole lot harder on their mice than home and office customers … this was a lesson we had to learn … the hard way.
So the forums began to roast us pretty hard in those days and the truth is most of those comments were pretty accurate. My biggest problem with the forums is that today in 2005 they are still making some of the same general comments.
The facts are that we sell in excess of one million mice a year and growing and that the return rate is less than one-half of one percent. Not even 1 mouse in 100 has been reported as failed, damaged or DOA, yet the forums still hammer Razer for ancient history.
The truth is that no product can ever be perfect and that Razer does pride itself on providing excellent customer experience and supporting our products. I could tell you that we strive to manufacture the perfect trouble free mouse but that would be a lie because we know there will be clunkers from time to time. We do care about QA and for the upcoming Copperhead are instigating a testing system for every single mouse coming off the assembly line.
So look, read all the forums and participate to your hearts content and whenever the subject moves to Razer quality assurance do provide the facts to your learned colleagues … especially Mr. Anonymous wherever he is.

problems with a RAZER MOUSE? I used my Boomslang for 4 years before the scroll wheel and “mouse-2″ (right click) started to fail.
There is Microsoft people, Logitech people and Razer People. Some of them just hate the mice from other manufacturers, so they always have to yell about how bad their products are/were. Maybe they got a bad product from you when you were still new, and then they switched to either MS or Logitech, and still “hate” Razer mice. I’ve never experienced anything bad with any of your products (thought I wish my Boomslang would last for 4 years more), it’s their own fault they don’t want to just TRY the best mice on earth (my opinion). But there’s nothing to do.
AND now I’ll go to bed, it’s almost 11pm here in denmark, and school is more important than gaming :\

I’m still using a 2000dpi Boomslang that I orignally got back in ‘99.
I’m glad Razer has gotten back on their feet and I’m looking forward to the release of the copperhead. In fact until I read about the copperhead I had not thought of upgrading I’ve been so pleased with my boomslang.
Keep up the good work.

Ah, yes. Anonymous. Isn’t he a general pain? Always so contradictive. Well, for the record, I’ve put my Diamonback: Plasma through hell. I also have a ExactMat. I’ve put both of them through hell, at once. You know what? The _lettering_ on the Plasma STILL hasn’t worn off. The first thing I thought when I got this thing was “Hey. I bet I can wear that logo off within the first week,” I was so terribly wrong. The design of this unit is very firm and sturdy. I can pick it up in my hand, and actually squeeze the thing (I don’t recommend it, though) and it won’t make any of the usual “shifting plastic” sounds like you get with other mice. I switched from a XM510 to the Plasma under very high scepticism. Nothing could be better than an XM510, right? Wrong.
Other high points about this mouse, and to further disprove any “Anonymous” that comes along.
I mentioned the ExactMat, right? Well, put it this way.. I can literally beat someone (Don’t do this) upside the head, dust it off, and try to scrape off the coating with my nails, put it back on my dest, and it STILL operates just like a gamer’s mousepad should. Perfectly. Did I mention it’s make of METAL? YEAH. The thing is rock solid, and there are these rubber feet that make sure the thing doesn’t move anywhere outside of where you want it to. This thing is going to be on my desk until I can’t find another ExactMat.
Razer products are the _best_ in the world for computer gaming input solutions and mousing surfaces. Anyone just skimming over this comment, don’t think twice, because an honest-to-god enthusiast just gave you the most truth you’ll ever hear about Razer from the outside looking in.

I am a proud Diamondback owner and im sorry to say im in the 0.5% spoken of, but the mouse rocked.. till the end.
Cant wait till the Copperhead comes to Estonia.

I am looking forward to the release of the Copperhead. I switched from a logitech to a Diamondback Chamileon and will not go Back! With the release of the copperhead i will be upgrading to it for my gaming system. Thus moving the Diamond back to my work computor as it has made my other mice seem to be lathargic.

Does anyone have any idea when the actual release date for the Copperhead is? I am planning on replacing my Logitech MX1000 with it. Pretty psyched.
August 24th, 2005 at 2:41 am
Im still trying to find out the release date as well man.

Cool, good to hear an actual response from someone. Something is better than nothing! Thanks, Razerguy. I will be sure to pick one up once they hit the market.

Razer Failures? Must be lucky.
I picked up my first Razer mouse back around late 99. I loved it! A little while later I went to pick up another couple for extras and the other computers I have here but Razer had gone under.
About a year later they put the 2000 back on the market and I bought two more. Worst mouse I have ever owned! I guess they must have goofed on the castings or something because the middle of the mouse was the lowest point and rather then resting on the mouse ‘feet’ and ball, the mouse was high sided on the bottom. If I didnt hold the back of the mouse down, the ball would skip along the pad. So I just replaced the ball in my original, gave it a solid cleaning and went back to gaming. This summer I starting hearing squeeking on my horizontal axis.
I just assumed I had a bearing/bushing/whatever they use going out and it was about time to grab an optical mouse anyway.
So I’m dead set on the Logitech 518 which is a great mouse when I see something about the Diamondback. Its kinda ugly with its red backlight and all but I figure what the heck I’ll head over here and check it out. Load up the page and I’m looking at the most awesome looking piece of computer hardware ever. The Diamondback Plasma LE! 2 days later I had one sitting on my desk.
So far it has served me very well, but unfortunately I will have to retire it in the not so distant future for something else…
In short, my original Boomslang 2000 lasted all of 6 very hard years. Its been through more games then I care to list.

Thanks for the closer info on the release date Razerguy, im sure to save my money now and not blow it on something else. Although the release date in unpredictable, its close enough that we can get excited. Cant wait, i loved the diamondback and it certainly gave me the edge in my gaming competitions and LANs. I just hope the Copperhead can do the same and serve me aswell as the Diamondback did. Im sure everyone here would agree that we love your mice and your brilliant work and hope to expect the same outstanding result with the Copperhead. Keep up the great work!

Not here yet. Ive never used a razor product before and frankly im going for the copperhead. I just hope its comfortable in my big hands, and hope for it to be released sometime this friggen century!

I’m very much looking forward to the copperhead’s release. I used to have a diamondback, but it was lost in the unfortunately spilt Bawls incident of last June. We lost a lot of good mice that day… Now I’m stuck with the old blue logitech mx510 and am in desperate need of a razer fix, now that my summer break is over and it’s back to gaming season. I’m ecstatic that it comes in black and blue, because I’d hate to change my case to match the mouse — and believe me, I’d do it.
Can’t wait for the US release!
September 11th, 2005 at 6:19 pm
I preordered the Boomslang 2000 dpi, and it’s still in use today! I actually have an earlier one than Razerguy himself.. Mine is #1360..
It’s not woring flawlessly any longer though.. The right mousebutton is not 100% working, but otherwise it’s been great for all those years.. I had a short fling with a MS I.E. 3.0, but when the Diamondback was about to be released I preordered that.. It’s been a great mouse, and in a few weeks it’ll finally take the place of my Boomslang on my 2nd pc. The Boomslang will be put to rest, and a shiny new green Copperhead will be resting under my right hand..
So when are the Tarantula and Piranha products coming out?
September 11th, 2005 at 7:35 pm
i ordered a mouse off the site today and i live in the US how long does it usually take for shipping?
September 11th, 2005 at 10:31 pm
It’s interesting that Razer admits that the boomslang was all messed up. I think I had like 4, they kept crapping out, I kept sending them back, eventually I didn’t get one back. whatever.
I picked up a Diamondback at Best Buy the other day because I just got a new gaming system and it is BLISS! This is an upgrade from a garbage 10 dollar Walmart Optical. Stay away from me when I have a flak cannon. No, seriously.
I’

Hey Razerguy, I remember at CPL you told me one of the colors of the Copperhead would be a Best Buy exlusive, just wondering if it’s the Chaos Green one, as the only retailers I have in my area that would even think about selling the Razer products is a Best Buy which happens to be an hour’s drive away. =\
Hopefully 2Checkout.Com will accept PayPal soon, else I’ll have to spend the Tax + Gas to get a Copperhead. =\
September 13th, 2005 at 4:08 pm
Okay, here’s the update as best as I can relate it for the US market …
Best Buy will receive the initial shipment and will have the exclusive retailer rights to the Tempest Blue model around the middle of October.
Razerzone and other online retailers will have all three colors perhaps one week before Best Buy. Note that the Chaos Green will initially be in limited supply.
Other retailers will have their products around November 1st.
Note that this information only applies to the US market. Please understand that we apologize for the delays in the initial delivery of Copperhead but natural disasters such as the typhoon in China has created havoc with all inbound product shipments.
September 14th, 2005 at 2:16 am
Thank you razerguy. I must say i am disappointed with the long release date however i understand why this is. Still, at least we know when it is released. When we be able to preorder?
September 14th, 2005 at 5:58 pm
when is the definite release date for the Copperhead in the USA. I am trying to wait as long as i possibly can but my current keyboard and mouse are dieing in me and i dont’ know how much longer to wait. PLEASE inform me asap
September 14th, 2005 at 9:55 pm
steve…a keyboard and mouse r dyin IN u? u have more urgent probs than gettin a copperhead!
scroll up 3 inches from ur post and u will c an answer 2 ur ?. thx 4 the updates razerguy. check this site nearly everyday 4 info. bought a diamondback 2 weeks ago from best buy in hopes of returnin it when the copperhead came out. heh. but im gonna b forced 2 keep it as a backup, since best buy only has a 30 day return policy. :/ cant get anythin 4 free anymore. but no complaints…the mouse is great! every1 needs 2 bad ass mice! thx.
September 15th, 2005 at 3:51 pm
hahah sorry i ment to say my mouse is dieing ON me. As for that post before i saw that but it really am expecting a round about date. Mid october can be from the 10-20th i mean thats a big range. Just wondering if i bought the diamondback now if i would be pissed in about 3 weeks lol. BTW razer your products are very nice.
September 15th, 2005 at 4:19 pm
That’s not a question we can answer. The Diamondback is a great mouse … just read the reviews. We believe that the Copperhead will be a great mouse with a bunch of additional features. You need to ask yourself if the additional features are worth enough to you to spend another $20 more for the Copperhead.
As an update the Copperhead will go on sale on our site, http://www.razerzone.com on Spetember 26th, for North America. These are for Tempest Blue First Edition units only and limited to the first 500 ordered. There will be another 500 (non-first editions) about one week later.
The Green and Red version Copperheads will land in the US the last week in October and of course still need to clear US Customs (not an easy feat).
Best Buy will receive the initial retailer shipments and will be on their selling floors in mid October. Since we cannot control how long it takes to get product to all of their stores and on the selling floor we can not set a more accurate date than “mid October”.
I hope this helps.
September 16th, 2005 at 12:11 pm
Razerguy,
That helps a lot. Oh and its definitely worth the wait. My brother has the diamondback, and one friend has the viper. And the diamondback is very awesome fits in my big hand perfectly. But i really wanan see how this copperhead is so i’ll definitely wait. And you will definitely have an order from me on September 26th. Thanks a lot for all the info.
Steve
September 16th, 2005 at 8:43 pm
yeah same 4 me. cant wait till mid oct 4 best buy 2 get em. will b pre-orderin mine on the 26th as well. steve…get the diamondback now! it will help w/gettin use 2 the mouse shape/feel. thats why i bought mine 2 weeks ago. memberd my old boomslang and how it took a while 2 get use 2 it. sides, every1 needs a good backup mouse 4 those times when the game just doesnt go ur way and ur temper wins.
September 19th, 2005 at 6:39 pm
Sorry for the question but I’m just wondering what will be diffrent with the Tempest Blue First Edition. Oh and I was wondering if Future shop would sell your new mouse. It’s like a sub-division of bestbuy, but it’s only in canada.
I just want to make sure that I can get the Tempest Blue and that it will not be a limited edition.
It will be my first razer product, and I was checking on buying the eXactMat as well. But they don’t have it at bestbuy or futurshop. Only place I could found thos is on the internet. I would have loved to be able to try the pad befor buying it. But I’m sure it’s a good product anyway
Thx in advanced Razerguy
September 22nd, 2005 at 10:37 pm
I, too, am wondering what the difference is between Tempest Blue First Edition and Non-First Edition. That will affect my buying decision. If it’s nothing big, I’ll just pick it up at the Best Buy down the street. If there is something special enough to warrant a month-early preorder, then heck yes, I’ll do it.
So yeah, what exactly is the First Edition?
September 23rd, 2005 at 4:10 pm
correct me if i am wrong but did razerguy not say going on SALE on the 26th so whats this preorder discussion about?
September 23rd, 2005 at 6:04 pm
Also note that Best Buy has the retail exclusive for the blue model and that we have shipped their order to all stores. Depending on how long they take to get them to the sales floor is purely up to Best Buy.
September 23rd, 2005 at 6:07 pm
Their is no operational difference between the first edition and the regular Copperhead, only cosmetic. As I mentioned above Best Buy shipment is on the way and it shouldn’t be too long.
September 23rd, 2005 at 6:23 pm
good deal razerguy… i was getting sad thinking maybe i just didn’t understand what you said and there might be a preorder and would have to wait for another few weeks.
One final question and i won’t bother you anymore. We could order these online at what time “sunday” night? i would really want to order it the first minute possible so if you let me know the first minute i can order it (eastern time) that would be great. THANKS!
Steve

September 24th, 2005 at 12:00 pm
Are there pictures of this cosmetic difference you described, or could you elaborate?
September 24th, 2005 at 12:15 pm
I just found some pictures thanks to Google.
http://propitiate.net/2005/09/04/razer-copperhead-review/
This is a review with quite a few pictures of the package and its contents, including the mouse itself of course.
Comparing these images to those found on the razer website, it seems the only difference is the “FIRST EDITION” letters near the bottom. I could be wrong, but that’s all I’m seeing.
September 25th, 2005 at 7:11 pm
only a FEW MORE HOURS!!!!!!
September 25th, 2005 at 10:10 pm
ordered it an hour ago… ship it out fast i can’t wait any longer lol… thanks guys. Is there a place on here where we can put reviews of the product and company… Ya know once i get it and try it.
September 29th, 2005 at 9:43 pm
wow all i gotta say is you guys rule awesome service, and this mouse is amazing. Should be ordering a mouse pad and wrist pad from you in the next few days. you guys are awesome.

This is a great mouse. I had the Boomslang way back and loved it, up until it started to crap out. I’ve been using a Logitech MX1000 for a while now, but have hated it. I replaced it with a CopperHead and, barring some astronomical leap forward in mouse technology, I can’t see myself ever replacing this!
My one concern is I ordered this along with the eXactMat and eXactRest combo. They did not ship with the mouse and I have yet to hear anything concerning them.
Other than this shipping blunder, I can say that I’m VERY impressed. Now I just have to find the right sensitivity settings to start owning in CS:S again.
September 19th, 2006 at 10:50 am
I am disapointed to see that the promsie of the free mouse feet for life has been removed and users are now having to buy the replacement feet. This was an additional reason that Razer mice are the best in the world.
I have a Diamondback and exactmat and i find the feet can wear down quite quickly
Would love to know the reason why

Unfortunately, I’m one of the guys who got bit. About a week after the return period for my Diamondback Plasma, the left mouse button began to double-click when I was single-clicking. What an annoyance that was. It made the computer impossible to use.
I removed the drivers to see if it was a software problem, but no luck there. I even switched over to Linux where there are no razer drivers. It still had the problem. I performed some minor surgery on the mouse(thereby voiding any warranty Razer would have given me) and removed the little plastic enclosure, button and metal contact mechanism from one of the buttons I don’t use and switched it into the left-click mount and the mouse worked flawlessly again. But some weeks after it developed more problems and I decided I wasn’t going to mess around with it anymore.
On the bright side, I would buy another Razer mouse in a heartbeat. It was light to the touch and smooth as silk..While it was working, that is.
March 22nd, 2007 at 6:36 am
I need really urgent help. How does the on-the-fly sensitivity work? i assigned button 4 to it and when i press it doing a game, nothing happens at all? What is wrong with it? Can anyone repair it or tell me what did i do wrong?
August 15th, 2007 at 5:05 pm
My Razer Copperhead has started double-clicking when I single-click. Is there a way to fix this without having to open it up?
I don’t have my receipt anymore so I doubt I can return it. I spent way too much money on this mouse to have something like this go wrong with it. I may have to go back to cheap Logitechs if the durability of these can’t hold up to gaming standards. Gaming (WoW) is just about impossible with the mouse as it is now — the windows I open close just as soon as I open them due to the perceived double-click.
February 12th, 2008 at 12:57 am
got the Double-clicking problem too, now I have to use a microsoft’s mouse

Hi there guys
Has anyone compared the subwoofers from this system to the Logitech’s Z5500’s sub?
Ok, before you jump down my throat, I know thats a 5.1, but “satellites” aside for now.
I’m asking about the subwoofer only.
On paper, this sub should out-pound the Z5500’s sub? As they’re rated 180W RMS and the Razers are rated at 200W RMS?
I’m asking cos I’m on the verge of purchasing a set of these for my “study” room, but I want low bass that can compare to my Z5500’s.
Will the Mako sub be up to the job?
