Razer Snakes into East Germany

September 19th, 2005

Not a lot to comment on for this travel log. We made our way to Leipzig in East Germany for our second trip to Game Conference. This is the most packed gaming event of the year and the crowds of gamers were introduced to the new Copperhead mouse.

This is mostly a pictorial view of the sites of this large event. No less than 125,000 gaming fans packed the halls from August 17th through the 21st. Razer showcased its new booth design as well as some very attractive German booth attendees (that’s “babes” to most of you).

There were contests, prizes and gifts of RazerGear and the winner of the most tattoos won a Copperhead mouse.

You won’t see Razerguy in these photos because I was sequestered in the media center in the Speed-Link room talking to customers and the EU press about Copperhead. This event is so loud and packed that it is virtually impossible to conduct an interview on the conference floor. Besides, I didn’t have my major medical insurance paid up.

Many thanks to our wonderful friends and partners at Jöllenbeck for helping with the design, development and for manning our booth. They are a wonderful partner and really nice people to work with.

We hope and plan to be back next year to share the experience with all our Germany friends and fans. It was a truly wonderful experience.

I noticed Logitech released their G5 mouse last week; is that going to have any impact on the copperhead release? I’m sure their G7 mouse isn’t far behind. Now that it’s approaching Zero Hour, I’m finding it harder and harder to have Any patience at all for the copperhead release. I went to Best Buy the other day and saw the diamondback chameleon for the first time, IRL, and it was beautiful….speaking of, are you going to have a chameleon copperhead? And if you are, is it going to be released after, or at the same time?

  2. Razerguy Says:
The Logitech mouse is not available at Best Buy. The Copperhead will be available to order online through Razerzone one week from today on September 26.

The Copperhead is available in 3 different LED colors, blue, green and red. Additional custom case mods will be available in the months to follow. We also plan to offer other light mod kits as well. Stay tuned.

If I may answer for Razerguy (despite not being a Razer employee =P), I’ve kept track of the Copperhead release info, and they haven’t stated any plans on releasing a Copperhead with the Chromaflare (I believe that’s what it’s called) paintjob that the Diamonback Chameleon had. Logitech has just been itching to release their G5 and G7 models ever since Razer’s announcement of the Copperhead to try and get a jump on the competition. It also seems like a few Razer customers, from other countries I assume, are starting to get their Copperheads now (some guy over at Blueprints showed off his and is running it through various testing). So an American release shouldn’t be far off. I’d predict that we’ll see them on online retailers near the end of this month.

  4. Razerguy Says:
That’s pretty close to the facts. We do release some products to the press, retail customers and some of our sponsored gamers in advance of the general launch, but proper testing just takes time. We will NOT rush a product into the market no matter what a competitor says or does. When it comes to gaming mice we are the leader in technology, innovation and performance. That’s not ego — that’s simply the facts.
  5. BIG DOG Says:

Well it’s good to see you believe in the company you work for. ^_^ And now that I know, I kinda wish I didn’t, for now I’m more antsy than ever….I’d just like to thank you, razerguy, for keeping us *very* committed fans in the loop. I have to admit, I’ve never seen so much buzz surrounding a single mouse, except perhaps the diamondback, and I’ve Never seen a mouse announced so early before release. I just hope it lives up to the hype. ;-) Oh, I did have one question about the mouse: What’s the purpose of the onboard(onmouse?) RAM? Is it to store the mouse button functions across computers? Because that would be ultimately cool…I can see it now: “The Razer Rattlesnake, with 16MB of RAM! Store up to 50 game configurations! NEW! First ever Razer keyboard, with 32MB of RAM! No need to set up your favorite layout between games or computers!” :-)

  6. Razerguy Says:
Actually this happens everytime we announce a release, however we never get used to it. We get all kinds of threats from avid customers anywhere from “I’m going to buy your competitors mouse” to bodily injury. We deal with them as best we can but we cannot alter the necessity of testing, shipping, US Customs clearance, etc.

Your assessment of the memory built into the Copperhead is correct, albeit a little over-stated. Smart input devices is the wave of the future and portability is a must for any competitive gamer.

Note to all … this is another area where Razer offers advance feature that Logitech or Microsoft does not. Remember that when you see them come out with their copies next year.

  7. xmC].NzXt-NeMeSiS Says:

Will the Razer Copperhead realeased at a bestbuy near october 14?…

  8. Razerguy Says:
Best Buy will have them before that date, however we have no control as to when they will “release” product.
  9. DaFraud Says:

Razerguy, whne will the copperhead be released in Australia? If you dont know, will i be able to purchase the mouse in all the colours (1 green, 1 blue and 1 red) and ship it too Australia?

  10. BIG DOG Says:

Speaking of Best buy, are they going to sell them at $60, do you know? Or is that just MSRP?

Well, thats the better answer Ive ever heard, and its good to know that at least, some company doesnt rush in their own products, that means a lot!
However, I wonder, Razerguy, wich one mouse should I get. I know this will be hard to answer, but whats the best mouse Razer Made? I was thinking in DiamondBack Plasma. Im searching for a brand new mouse, with better characteristics than the others.

  12. Eggoman Says:

I myself can not wait for the copperhead as i am an avid user of all razer mice from day 1 :D. I would never buy another product as long as razer is alive and producing the greatest mice in the universe. I suggest to all that patience be the virtue for if the eggoman can wait so can the world for we know the end will be grand! Long live RAZER!

  13. elpo Says:

hey razer guy i wanna get the copperhead i know a shop selling it and stuff but i wanted to ask how well isit built i know itsmaterial are made from high quality stuff but are all the pieces equally alighned buttons have exact feel etc by the way ive never had a razer mouse my first is gonna be copperhead yea one more thng copperhead would last long right i like the sound of the mods

  14. BIG DOG Says:

The best mouse on the market will be on the market come Spt. 26th. ;-) However, to answer your question semmgod, I’ve been doing some rather extensive research on mice in the past few months, and the next best mice I was able to find were the Logitech G5 and G7 mice. I’m partial to wireless technology, so I plan on getting the G7 eventually; the G5 is available right now on their website, but I STORNGLY recommend getting the copperhead instead of the G5. There is no reason you should get any other mouse once the copperhead comes out.

As consumer feedback, here’s an idea that I think would make MANY gamers euphorically ecstatic. If it’s possible to do it with the copperhead mouse, so much the better, but you should undoubtedly integrate this feature into your next mouse, because I guarantee if you don’t, your competitors will. But like you said Razerguy, “When it comes to gaming mice we are the leader in technology, innovation and performance. That’s not ego — that’s simply the facts.” Anyway, what caused me to come up with this idea is the weekly game development club I attend at ITT. We’re not allowed to put our personal computers on the school network, so we have to use the lab computers. The only problem is we’re not given admin access, so any settings we might change in the game aren’t saved, and any mice we bring to the lab we can’t install drivers, if the case may require. So, we’re forced to use the generic refuse Dell claims is a mouse, or a substandard wired mouse with no features. BUT if the drivers were to run FROM the mouse, then it wouldn’t matter what the system restrictions were. And, branching off my original idea, if the keyboard had onboard RAM as well, you could set up one configuration that would be the same no matter what game you were playing. Of course, that’s not Nearly as simple as it sounds, but the mouse idea, in my mind, is very feasible…

  15. Razerguy Says:
It’s really difficult to say which of our mice is best. Really depends on your individual needs and style of play. The Diamondback is really a better mid to high sens mouse, geared for FPS and RTS games. The Copperhead is a better all-around mouse for both high and low sens players. The Copperhead is also more programmable and the built-in memory is good for portability. Its really up to you and your individual needs.

On another subject, I’ve got a small bet going among my group of friends on what Razer will name their next mouse. My bet goes to either the “Constrictor” or the “Cottonmouth”. “Rattler” “Cobra” and “Anaconda” are very common guesses.

  17. BIG DOG Says:

It’s not going to be constrictor; it is not a poisonous snake. Nor is the Anaconda. Cobra and Cottonmouth I hadn’t thought of. Most likely it’ll be some obscure snake native to Madagascar that no one has ever heard of before, lol. Here are some other poisonous snakes I was able to find:

    Bushmaster
    Coral Snake
    Fer-de-lance
    Common Adder
    Long-Nosed Adder
    Puff Adder
    Death Adder
    Common Cobra
    Egyptian Cobra
    King Cobra
    Green Mamba
    Krait
    Rhinoceros Viper or River Jack
    Taipan
    Tiger Snake
    Banded Sea Snake
    Yellow-bellied Sea Snake

I’m thinking…Yellow Belly…any takers? ;-) But seriously, I’m betting on Tiger, King Cobra or Death Adder…maybe Bushmaster…and if Razer REALLY gets desperate, they can always turn to:
    Poisonous Lizards!!
    Gila Monster
    Mexican Beaded Lizard

    Betcha Didn’t Know:
The Boomslang is a poisonous snake.
    The Diamondback is a “Rattler.”
There are over 15 species of Viper.
But I’m sure Razerguy knows ALL about poisonous snakes…which, when you think about it is….unnerving…

  18. Razerguy Says:
Hey, some of my best friends are snakes.

What if I were to tell you that our next mouse will NOT be named after a snake??? Would I win the bet? It could happen, but I can’t say any more at this time.

If we do use a snake, my personal preferences are Taipan and Death Adder. Taipan is really deadly and, although its written as 2 words, I really like Death Adder for a “in-your-face” gaming product. We would probably take some creative license and make it read “DeathAdder” as a single name.

Note that all but three of your suggestions had 2 or more words in the name. This probably won’t fly in the world of branding, both from a graphic and recall standpoint. Also note that all of our previous sub-brands were single-word names. BTW, you left the Mamba off your list.

The interesting thing about this is that no matter what we name the beast it all comes down to how good the product is and what it can do to enhance the end-user’s overall enjoyment of their game. Nearly everyone laughed when we introduced the Boomslang (tree snake) because the name sounded so foolish for a brand … until they actually used the product.

  19. BIG DOG Says:

Yeah, I figured you’d like Death Adder…and I didn’t forget the Mamba. It’s listed as the ‘Green Mamba.’ Bushmaster’s another in-your-face name. I think a lot of fans would be disappointed if you deviated from your ‘deadly snake’ tradition. It’s what makes Razer Razer. But I’m sure you’ll do what’s best for the Company. :)

  20. Razerguy Says:
If I was going to go with a 2 word name for Mamba it would be Black Mamba, which just sounds more lethal than green.

Bushmaster is either too sexist or political for my tastes;)

  21. BIG DOG Says:

Yeah, the page I pulled those names from had it listed as Green Mamba, and ctrl+c ctrl+v is my best friend, so…

I guess you’re right, but, judging from my personal experiences with the like-minded, you’d probably sell a LOT more with a name like that…we gamers LOVE the controversy! :P

  22. bioTECHNICS Says:

    Good poisonous snake names… cool.

Jararacussu has a cool ring to ti.

I’d have to give the Coastal/Inland Taipan props. Which last time I checked had the highest recorded toxin in its venom. One bite yielded enought to kill about 100 - 120 people.

However, Russell’s Viper holds the title for most frags, boasting over 6000 a year…. and it likes to live near humans. But we’ve got viper covered, and I’ll bet it has more frags under it’s belt than the actual snake. ;)

  23. DaFraud Says:

I also agree, the Taipan sounds awesome for a mouse name. Such a deadly snake for a deadly mouse ;) I think it will draw the crowd due to the catchy name and sleekness of design if well done.

  24. Stillb0rn13 Says:

i have a really hugh question that i have not seen anwsered yet will the copperheads be shipped with the weights or do i have to weight for them ?????

  25. TmG)Amp Says:

“Note that all but three of your suggestions had 2 or more words in the name. This probably won’t fly in the world of branding, both from a graphic and recall standpoint. Also note that all of our previous sub-brands were single-word names.”

That’s why I think it should be Cottonmouth, then. Boomslang was never a name that was meant to strike fear/coolness factor into people, neither is Cottonmouth, it also kinda “goes with” the name Copperhead, sounding slightly similar and all.

Plus, the reason why we care about the name, is because we all -know- Razer’s got something cooking up that will be the ultra quality. It’s kinda like a “Yeah, the mouse will be awesome, we all know that already, so what will it be -called-?”

At the moment, I’m suddenly at a crossroads, stick with my Diamondback Plasma? Or go with the Copperhead? Thing is, now that I have an eXactMat + Rest, I can now fingertip my Plasma without hurting the right side of my hand after extended use!

  26. Kruel Says:

I’m curious as to whether or not the Copperhead has been tested on an Icemat. I have a black Icemat v2 which works great with my Diamondback, but my old Mx1000 couldn’t do any quick movements on it. I’ve also heard the G5 doesn’t work on the Icemat.

So my concern is, do all laser mice have a problem with the Icemat or is it just the Logitechs?

  27. Martijn Evers Says:

I was planning to go the GC too, but, as school started next day, I kinda did not have time. ( To hell with school! LoL) Would be cool to finally meet ya’all :)

    Greetings

  28. xmC].NzXt-NeMeSiS Says:

hey do wights are included with the mouse? …..and why the product is out of stock? …you just had a few copperheads in your razer store?….

  29. Razerguy Says:
Sorry, but the weights will sold separately and come later as a separate product called ProTools. More to come on this new product soon.
  30. Lvcifer Says:

Im just wondering, will you guys have more Copperhead in stock in near future?
or should i buy it from another place? (any suggestion..)

    thanks Razerguy

  31. Razerguy Says:
Copperhead shipments arrive every week so any sold out situations will be temporary. The Green and the Red models will be available in a few weeks.

Lvcifer, I could help you if I knew where you lived. For personal or more individual questions please write me at razerguy@razerzone.com. I’m always happy to help. Just remember that I’m not technical support.

  32. Lyndesy fricke Says:

I realy love the way that you have this set up. I would realy love to enter the razerzone.

  33. Extinctor Says:

Well, i got a Logitech G7 & an Icemat v2. And yes, there are issues.

But only at the icemat. I can move around, but the buttons work. Then i open the set-point software, close it again (either Alt-F4 or “x”) Then the movement works also!

But aside my icemat, at the wooden table surface it works allways! Think it’s a software problem, but i just started to investigate the web…

  34. Romaha Says:

Razer guy, aren’t you a little old and out of touch with everything? You have got to be close to 70 yo. I know you don’t look it, but ya gots to be feeling it.

  35. Tusse Says:

Hi im getting this mouse tommorow
But i heard about the issues
I’ve searched for the software who fixes it on icemat(i have a red icemat)
Do any of u know where to grab this software?
    plz help….
