Hungover in Hannover: David “Zaccubus” Treacy’s CeBIT blog

April 1st, 2008

Where to start… what a hectic week! It all started when GaRpY left Birmingham so we could catch a train to Stansted airport. Anyways, he came round to my little caravan in the middle of nowhere to get set for the long trip ahead of us, but, before that, he found my Replica lightsaber and started playing around with it, and then started to poke my fat cat “merball”. Which she enjoyed :P

02.JPG

01.JPG

We soon left my home to head for the local train station, which kind of went wrong as I had no idea what time the trains were from this small station so we ended up having to wait 50 minutes. In the boredom, GaRpY was begging me to take a photo of him mooning an oncoming passing train. After a quick phone call to ODEE, it seemed to be a bad idea.

03.JPG

More travel trouble was to come when we arrived at London Paddington. The easy tube to Liverpool street was all delayed, so we had to make our way round via other lines. Already leaving late as it is from my house, I was kind of panicking and running around like a spoon. While GaRpY remained cool as a cucumber the whole time, as you can see, my eyes went a bit mad!

04.JPG

While running for the train to Stansted airport, I almost lost GaRpY at the ticket stand because of it. But he soon saw me stick me head out of the train yelling “Hurry the feck up, it’s going to leave any second,” and he got the idea and started to run :D .

Finally made it to the airport, no trouble at all…. :D and bumped into Rob aka Moyes from Team Dignitas, my old team leader whom I used to play World in Conflict with… he’s the Posh 1 in Dignitas :D

05.JPG

We met him in the check-in area where the TVs were showing footage of an airplane almost crashing due to strong crosswinds in Germany. Of course, seeing this before you fly to

Germany does help when you’re already scared of being in a tube with wings at 35,000ft but oh well, let’s go :P .

At last in Germany / Hannover, where Alex and Chris picked us up from the airport, which was nice :D as we had no idea where we were going. After driving for 30 mins we got to the flat :D at around 12am CET. We left at 3 GMT so we needed much sleep. But being gamers, we decided to set up our laptops and get on the Internet as I already started to get the shakesfrom not having been on the Internet for 6-7 hours. I is a geek :D.

06.JPG

07.JPG

Then we met Sebastian, the master of sound, and picked our rooms. I somehow ended up with the girly room of the flat. I can’t remember how but it was ok :D And GaRpY and Moyes got a little too comfortable.

08.JPG

After a good night’s sleep, Sebastian took us to the event. I had no idea it would be so big… took us 20mins just to walk to our part of the massive event and thinking this will be a standard event playing a few games…. Got to the Razer booth and met some of the Razer girlz :D. Hot stuff :D. And things started to kick off as soon as the first show started. I was like omg that was crazy, but some of the stuff later got to madness levels ;D

091.JPG

We then met more Razer staff like Ben and Celeste before we started, and even though I spoke to Ben many times on Ventrilo on the Dignitas vent, I couldn’t remember him when I met him in person till GaRpY said his nickname on vent was Zaduk, and I felt like I have the memory of a fish :P.

Oh well :D.

We started to set up the PCs with UT3. Took some time. We didn’t really finish it till the next day but we got through the games quite easily.

10.JPG

When the Razer show started, it got mad. Germans flying all over the place for freebies; falling all over each other for a wrist band! But Akidee really got the crowd going… he was awesome at bigging everything up – he was awesome :D!

24.JPG

12.JPG

There were a few days things really got mad at the Razer booth. It started getting kicked off with guys taking off their t-shirts, then down to their underpants and walking around the event screaming “Razer”. The whole crowd was so loud I almost went deaf. But it wasn’t just kids doing this, it was adults as well lol!

This image freaks me out a bit ….

13.JPG

But it got even crazier! Not only were the men doing it, but the women too! Which was nice ;D But they took it to the next level.

141.JPG

She then took the rest off… Crazy! And won a mouse. I don’t think anyone in the UK would do this… only in Germany :D

The same day, I was put to the test on my shoutcasting skills. It was my first time on taking the mic, and talking about UT3 wasn’t easy at all. I got stuck many times, but I was getting the hang of it at the end. Was also kaking bricks before I had to anything lol.

15.JPG

That night, we were invited to a hotel for a meal. It was in the middle of nowhere, and everyone from Razer was there :P FREE FOOD ya! :D Everyone from Razer was friendly and cool and I found it very easy talking to all of them.

16.JPG

It felt like they really cared about what gamers want in their products etc :D which was awesome and then Min-Liang Tan laid down the gauntlet and challenged us to a game of UT3, thinking he was all Pro. The smack talk soon followed :D. He then put a bet on the line: if he scores 1 frag, both me and GaRpY will have to dye our hair Razer Green for all to see and if we if we got 20 frags without Min-Liang killing us, we would get our own 10 limited edition mice with our own design on it :D! So we would play him the following day :D, but first we got a little drunk. I got some funny videos of GaRpY trying to do shots lol :D

But it was a really nice meal, after which we all decided poker was a good choice.

17.JPG

Now I love playing poker, but I was out within 2 hands as I tried a horrible call which ended up in GaRpY or moyes taking me chips. I can’t remember who, as I was fairly drunk lol so in my drunken wisdom I thought I would give everyone a hand in knowing what % chance they had of winning but since I was drunk I was a little off. And Team Razer beat Dignitas in the poker :p! My fault, I sux. Well, by this time, I was very wasted and needed to sleep for our big match vs Min-Liang Tan, CEO of Razer :D.

The next day, around noon, Min-Liang Tan turned up all fired up to slap me and GaRpY about. When we did a quick warm up, both me and GaRpY were surprised at Min-Liang’s gaming skills. He did some clever moves, waiting at the amours, but both mine and GaRpY’s skills were clearly too strong for Min even though he knocked GaRpY down to 3hp at one point. If one of us got fragged, it was over. Luckily, GaRpY got some health packs and soon hunted down the frags like the beast that he is :D.

18.JPG

Min-Liang was awesome to play against. He wasn’t bad at UT at all :D but has a few more things to learn if he’s going to beat me and Garps. Because we were going to get such an awesome gift from Razer and Min-Liang Tan, we decided to colour our hair anyways for i33 :D lol. So look out for that.

After even more crazy German-ness, we all had a booth party at the Razer booth with 400 euros going on drinks. It was insane!! Ze Germans know how to party and in style too. The tunes came out and thanks to the guys at Microsoft and EA, we were playing Rock Band for a while to see my drumming skills!

19.JPG

20.JPG

As you can see, with all this booze to drink, someone’s going to wake up a little bit silly in the morning. And, of course, it was moyes right here.

22.JPG

O dear, what he got up to. Let’s just say the poker that night didn’t finish because of the food. As the night went on, more crazy things happened.

21.JPG

After another recovery, we were all good.

23.jpg

So much has happened during the week, it was awesome. From everyone we met and saw to all the gamers and peeps just having a laugh :D :D As I’ve rambled on far too long, I think I’ll end this blog here :D.

We had an awesome time in Germany and I’d like to thank Razer for looking after us and putting up with us. And I really hope to work with them all again as they’re awesome.

I’ll leave you with some more pics on how crazy the Germans got :D I think CeBIT went rather well… don’t you? :D

While I do bat for both teams, I have to say that I’m disappointed at the whole “Razer Girls” thing and that you encouraged the girl to strip in front of what I assume would be hordes of guys. I’m not saying you directly asked for her to do such a thing (at least I hope not), but by furnishing the prize, you supported her actions.

I realize it was a big event, in Germany, that booth girls are the norm and everything, but I guess as a competitive female gamer (devoted to my Copperhead) as well as a professional in the gaming industry, I was hoping you guys would be above that. The competitive gaming scene is uncomfortable enough for girls - this is just one more reminder. :/

  2. ScHiScH Says:

no comment to the last picture :)

    well written dave!

  3. grown up male gamer Says:

This is why I hesitate to buy for example, lycosa that minus the lit lappy buttons speaks to me with it’s great combination of anti ghosting and a compact sillouette. I dont like what the brand stands for, and it might be silly, but with the whole profile thing being so prominent in both products as well as the marketing it’s hard not to think about it.
That WE clothing-like activist thing you got going in your market strategy with the leet gaming vibe is cynical on it’s own, but coupled with employing booth babes and not exactly, i’m guessing, fighting the premise of an situation where girls strip their clothes off infront of an crowd is one thing too many. We live in a time when the line between Girls gone wild and well, aware unexploited hedonism is fine or unclear and recognizing the individuals self-independence is important, and all a matter of case to case, so it might not be as simple - but when putting one and two together and seeing that this is about gaming i’d say that this is sketchy to say the least, and provokingly low brow. The more I think about this, and how some other gamers - and i’m high and competitive - look upon female gamers and you doing this - reading first comment , the more pissed off I get.

  4. Guy Says:

If you read the article it also says guys were stripping too. No harm no foul. Awesome event guys!

  5. Caryn Says:

hey if you’re comfortable with your body? why not? different people / different values, stripping to her might be just like another walk in the park… no big deal! chill.

  6. Daveonator Says:

Looks like you guys were very successful and had a lot of fun. Cheers!! First let me start off by saying I’m older than most of the peeps in that picture, and have 3 lovely daughters of my own. However, I’m also educated, from the US, and believe in a less restrained society then the US.

With that said, what people need to remember is that you were in Germany. I know that if people were to strip down here in America (because of censorship — yes accept it… we’re not so free after all) the observers would be less apt to applaud the nude person. With that said, this depends on the norms, and values of those present… obviously Girls Gone Wild is popular here in local bars for a reason… but if GGW went to a Church and did their thing… I don’t think it would be the same story. We can thank good old censorship for suppressing our society for so many years, that GGW and porn is so big here in America. Shoot, I know a few Europeans of my own, and they seem to always ask me what’s the big deal about taking off your clothes here in America?

Most people that negatively replied to this rather successful marketing tactic are probably not familiar with Freikörperkultur, also known as free body culture or FFB. There are many vacation sites, or camp sites for the whole family to enjoy based off of FFB. It’s really not that big of a deal as Caryn pointed out (however I think it’s faulty reasoning to conclude someone isn’t comfortable with their body, just because their norms don’t match another culture’s norms).

The fact of the matter is that nudism in Europe is generally looked at differently and less harsh than in America, given the social norms are different and all. So, I guess we can go back to our lives here in America, and we can ignore the fact that cultures are different everywhere. We can also ignore the fact that we have been heavily censored, but you can’t censor the net so well (GO EFF!!!). However we can’t ignore that everyone in the pictures are having fun, and enjoying themselves.

From what it looks like is that this event was a blast! The PR was widely accepted given the social, economical, and demographics for that location in the world. I just wish I could’ve been there, and got some free stuff too!! :p

    -Daveonator out!

  7. Sam Tyler Says:

The level of immaturity and lack of class that Razer and it’s “team” exhibits is far and away the most prominent reason I hesitate to purchase their products. I find this page and alot of other Razer posts extremely rude and degrading to women. I find it hard to believe that the investors and board of directors at Razer allow this type of media to remain on the main Razer website. Classless!

P.S. Your marketing team and President should be fired…….

  8. disappointed Says:

    Guy/Caryn:

My comments were based entirely from the perspective of someone who fits all of these categories: a) female, b) competitive gamer, and c) someone in the industry. Because I’m in all three fields (and happen to have a personal interest in sexual/social dynamics as they pertain to video games), something like this has a lot more impact and I understand the implications on a deeper level.

This has nothing to do with being comfortable with your body; it’s about the inherent social complications in a scene like this. And think about it - guys stripping is completely different from girls stripping, if you have any sense of social context. But I’m guessing neither of you have any idea what I’m talking about in the first place, so this is where I get off the bus.

  9. Ratch Says:

guys above me u r a fag. i have uber micro!

  10. nab Says:

    disappointed:

I belong in the categories of: a) European, b) Gaming Manager, a) male, and d) someone who has been in the industry for a very long time.

I will tell your right off you are basing your “social context” on a very sexist view point. Also you are implying your standards to a very different cultural and regional specific atmosphere. Not everyone thinks, feels, and operates in the same way you do which I might add is a very closed minded perspective. European culture in some countries is vastly less conservative and less restricted in some senses compared to others so to some this behavior might seem “acceptable”.

I am in no way condoning this type of behavior because it does in reality set Professional Gaming back in a sense, but to imply you are above people here in intellect and you are inherently special due to a gender/cultural basis is very disrespectful to say the least.

You want to promote to an equal society yet promote only to a gender bias. A woman views another woman in this behavioral pattern just like a man views another man in the same way. This isn’t an “apples an oranges” society we live in anymore since we are all equal human beings. It can be held vice versa based on sexual orientation, but I won’t get into that at this time. It is disgusting and distasteful never the less for either gender, and should not be discriminated on towards either especially on a convention of this magnitude. Maybe I am overreacting though since similar displays are carried out now at most major electronic consumer shows, but I still believe in having a professional business appeal. Everyone seems to be on the basis lately of “sex sells”, but in reality it is something that doesn’t really brand associate especially with electronics.

I don’t think less of Razer’s products for this display, but their company’s professional image is somewhat declined from my perspective. I am glad Razer supports gaming teams, and I wish they would continue on that marketing path and less on displays such as these booth babe/strip shows that negatively portrays images to certain people.

At any rate, it just utterly irks me that something like this happens and someone like you (disappointed) flies off the handle at everyone without looking at all the perspectives outside of their own. It only contributes to racist, sexist, and ethnocentric attitudes that disgust me beyond belief. You consider yourself a respectable adult then act like one please internet or not. If you can’t then by all means stay on “the bus”. :/

  11. thewildone Says:

sounds like you all had some fun!!!, could’ve shown more pics of the chicks…. girl gamers in bikini’s…. i like! who cares what people say.
everyone uses their assets to get ahead, that’s including the gaming industry…

  12. Stoyan Says:

    @ disappointed:
I’m glad that there are more gamers out there so that the gamer society is not alone (it needs people from both genders after all), but I don’t agree with your point here. You seem to provoke the sexist behavior rather than the opposite and I think that’s based on your narrow mindedness. Open your eyes and accept people for what they are, because they are different and ffs, let them have their fun already! The gamer “scene” is uncomfortable for you, because that’s how you make it. No one’s against gaming girls so the only problem is your own self esteem.

Everyone got there to party and on parties, people do stupid things, BUT they have fun. Alcohol also contributes to stupid actions, but I’m sure that they are only stupid from a sober point of view. I applaud the girl that stripped and I’m sure she enjoyed it, but if everyone starts doing it, it will start to get boring. That’s why it was fun for the audience. It doesn’t matter what’s the gender of the stripper and that’s what you need to understand or you will stay with the same mindset, always prejudice about everything around you.

So what’s the big problem with Razer’s marketing? Look at how many brands promote their products through people. Need I remind you of the “Mac and PC” commercial? Razer’s just the next company, which decided to put some “skin”, but not in the most successful way. What I want to see (and I bet that I’m not alone on this one) is gamer models to please the crowds. Models should be from both genders of course. Wouldn’t you like to see that? I know I would and I’ve seen tons of nudity and “skin” already (yes, I live in Europe) which isn’t a thing to brag about. I’m not saying the models should be nude, no. Just appropriate clothes for the weather there so that it looks like a mini fashion show.

You’re free to disagree with me on anything I said, but i hope that you will some day understand you’re not the only one with a opinion out there.

  13. Syndicated Death Says:

    disappointed:

At what point does personal responsibility enter into all this? if I don’t want do something in a crowd environment if I don’t then I won’t.people have a right to think and do things for themselves. don’t blame the crowd or the staff for the actions that people take on their own behalf. no guns were held to anyones head I’m sure. if you want to hold your self to a higher standard I applaud you. if you want to expose yourself to a crowd then I also applaud you. you’re doing what YOU want.

-the guys took the shirt off also
-the ones who said it is a bad choice nudity or exploit of the girls… WTF it is a free world I think you feel yourself more degrated than anyone else…nudity is nothing to be ashamed of…im from central america and even from a guy who was born in here .. (and believe me this society is very close and square about those things)… when i read the bad comments i just thougt U r just Stupid…. LET THE POPLE ENJOY THEIR LIVES, BE FREE, FEEL FREE,,, if you think that kind of things are bad… i think you just have somethin bad within you… just saw the pictures everybody looked happy soooo Whats the problem you think like youre from 2 centuries ago c`mon

  19. wtf Says:

    disappointed Says:
And think about it - guys stripping is completely different from girls stripping.

Care to explain why? I thought we were equals?

  20. grown up male gamer Says:

Some of you are missing the point, it’s not at all a matter of being prude or pushing old fashioned values - it’s a matter of supressing the symptoms of living in a not so equal world until we get to the point where we dont need to, and furthermore breaking patterns. Also, forgetting the practical side of things for a second; it displays certain values or lack of and thats the end of it.
And I dont think the girl stripping is the main problem here, it’s the booth babes. It’ll always seem like you’re making a hen out of a feather with these kinds of things, but where should it start and end, and when if not now? It might not seem like a big deal to you, and it’s just human nature to objectify to some extent - and in a perfect world it wouldn’t be a problem, but putting women on display does not help women (and men for that matter) and is as said in any case a display of poor judgement.

nab: I know your’e not distinctively replying to me, but i’m european and it’s a myth that we are all that different to the american public, especially if you take in that just like in the states, people actually differ from one place to the other and inbetween even more. Also cultural acceptance of nudity (which in my opionion mainly limits itself to the very separate phenomenon of nude beaches) does not rule out problems in this department.

“You want to promote to an equal society yet promote only to a gender bias. A woman views another woman in this behavioral pattern just like a man views another man in the same way.”

You are missing the point, or we’re reacting to different things. It’s a matter of how women and men are perceived, you want to surgically integrate total equality while we see that todays women and men are not on the same playingfield and putting women on display is a part of, and retains the problem. I think that was the essence of what disappointed reacted to. Again I dont think the girl stripping is the main problem since I dont know the circumstances involved and this is not about pinching the individual and such.
Also and said in all friendlyness - yes, a lot of people ARE uninformed of this way of thinking, even to challenge it. It has nothing to do with being superior but different discourses and when you’re far enough from each other debate is to some extent pointless.

Realist: you say “always has”, how long is always, 30 years? times and people change. and there’s nothing wrong wtih boobies, what’s wrong again is that there exists a strong tendency of women being perceived (as well as portrayed in the few games featuring women) as objects, and simply put women with everything that means, and not people. And we’re talking in general here, things are improving and it’s always a matter of tendencies.

wtf: The old shallow and repated “turned tables” argument..
It’s very simple, no one is saying men and women are exactly the same and more importantly it’s just an outright oversimplification overshooting the whole matter. In a perfect world mirroring rights might be viable but it’s not relevant since it’d have to be to the point of it automatically happening.

  21. nab Says:

I hail from Naestved, Denmark and I have lived in Germany, since part of my heritage is from, there and I can tell you there are subtle differences between us and Americans. We aren’t as closed minded in many ways at least my friends and the people I know aren’t. I don’t know where you are from, but I think that is a better indicator than most.

If you think women are the only thing being objectified now you are living in the past. There were men being treated the same way at that event. Also maybe it is a little undermined in belief, but I believe in everyone being equal and I don’t promote to a prejudice or bias against others. Your line of thinking is exactly why there is still prejudice and biased attitudes in society. It isn’t “ok” to objectify women or men and all these what ifs and hypotheticals are bollocks.

Putting either gender on display is distasteful and I don’t agree with any of it and I think playing the card of one is worse than the other is ignorance more or less. I don’t care if a lot of people think this way it doesn’t make it right. Challenging it isn’t the problem, but challenging it and only supporting one side of the argument and being biased and sexist against the other is a problem. You aren’t helping your case by acting that way and only promoting that you in turn on the same way as the people objectifying them.

This isn’t a perfect world, but there is nothing wrong with trying to improve things and the only way you are going to improve things is if everyone is on a even playing field. You keep trying to make a division where one shouldn’t exist and people are striving to eliminate it. All you are doing is supporting the fact that sexism and racism is “ok”. You see it as oversimplification I see it as it is that simple. Stop being racist and sexist and grow up. That is how simple it is.

I don’t really care though you keep scraping it under the rug and acting like it isn’t a problem. Your hoity-toity little argument you are making is only pushing society deeper in the cracks and supporting what is wrong in today’s world. You keep doing that and nothing will be fixed mate. :/

  22. Cornelia Says:

There’s some good points in several reactions on the subject here but I do think that I mostly have to agree with the nay sayers.

Female gamers are (slowly but steady) taking up a lager percentage of the gamer population. I’d say this is a positive development and should be encouraged at all points.
All I can conclude tho, is that because of the gamer shows and LAN parties being so male orientated they make a rather non appealing setting for female gamers. I personally think this is a loss to the world of the games and It also proofs that there still is a certain level of immaturity and lack of professionalism to it.

I’m not saying we need events with pink, ponies and rainbows, but I do think ditching the indifferent booth babes for other people (good looking if you will, since attractive people do sell) that actually have a heart for games would be a lot more professional and interesting option. (both female and male, doesn’t matter).

I’m a female competitive European gamer.
And no it is not quite regular or generally encouraged behavior in Germany (or any other European country that I visited/know people in ) that girls strip for goodies, in case anyone still had any doubts about this :P.

  23. grown up male gamer Says:

Nab: lets see.. Do men generally, as in GENERAL and the average person, not you, think that women are different to them mentally? Men are from earth women are from venus? Does society promote gender differences from birth to death, including automatically treating girls differently from boys the day they are up and running and developed enough to take impression? Are males photographed for risque covers and photos and asked what their favorite color is and how to best be pulled in mags for women? Are males as affected by advertising, fashion and magazines as young women are? do you think that may have something to do with the sheer difference in volume and type of the super-slim and perfect ideals that advertising and the arts aspire to when it comes to females vs men? or the sheer shock value of all these images of women mainly being pretty, ON TOP of strong values and ideas on how women are and should be already being existant and pointing in one direction? like the general myth around women as being pure and “nest builders” and nymphs at the same time, or soft, and sneaky and intriguant and passive aggressive at the same time, and the expectations that put on women? Can a woman be as equally sexually promiscious as a man without getting socially snuffed for it and tagged you know what, GENERALLY? Are men with family generally taking the same responsibility for staying at home with the children during the early years? is it as easy for women, thinking in what is socially acceptable in society, to focus on getting ahead and have a career? are there as many women in board rooms across the world? are eating disorders light years away in prominence on the male side to the female? do the for example, average young gamer you are bound to run into every day talk about women (or on the second subject mentioned - just life in general) in a very derogatory manner and sport homofobic and misogynic values and ideas? everything is gay, that color is gay, you are gay when you show signs of respecting women as human beings. do you blame me for thinking the world needs a nudge in the right direction, _within reasonable bounds_? it’s not like it’ll do a big difference anyway. the world is going down the drain already and there’s probably no stopping it, but when society identifies an public and spread health problem it tries to deal with it, this is a lot more complex and should of course on that note be handled differently - but not doing anything to break patterns and encourage a different view of women??!
I think what you dont admit to is that things are cemented in structures, in peoples values, how they go about things, how all this sippers down into everything else (and that they can change with more winners than losers).
..And if within this world with these entities and parameters men in one single event strip off their shirts to win a mouse in the geist of “300″ machoism or something of that sort, just guessing - then, that does not change a thing, because everything still exists around it. And again the girl not linked to razer independently stripping is not really the problem, just trying to communicate something in a broader sense once you brought it up.

I couldn’t follow paragraph 3, 4 and 5 and i’m not cleverly and conveniently writing them, or you off, because I want to understand, but i’m too tired right now to get into how you possibly missunderstood me by the looks of it / the alternate school of thought you abide to when it comes to individuals and rights and everyones part in things which may dictate how you perceive and go about things.

  25. JP Says:

To all of those who complain about razer not having class:

If you know ANYTHING about marketing, then you should know the number one rule. What is the most powerful industry on the Internet right now? … Well can you think of it? O that’s right, its sex. Sex sells. It’s a fact. Whether you like it or not, sex is a major part of the Internet, and 90% of gamers watch that kind of stuff.

Their target market is not 40 year olds, like you “older gentleman gamers”. Its kids from 13-28 years old who would pay an extra dollar or two just to see the “razer” name on the mouse. Computers are a fad that will never grow old, and it will be the most powerful industry in the world.

Now imagine the most powerful industry, which is sex, combine with video games and hardware. They are doing fine job marketing because they know what people want. They use it to their advantage. And yes it is degrading to woman and yes it shouldn’t be happening. But when your wallet keeps getting fatter and fatter because you slap a half naked chick on the stage, you would change your opinion to. And it’s not like she wasn’t having fun either.

gumg: Whatever you want to call yourself the point of the matter is you are generalizing and you are trying to split hairs. Maybe the general person does feel the same way you do that there is a need for a certain class to be an inferior, but my ideals however don’t coincide with that. An event should be made appealing for everyone not just one class and either way the stripping both sides was not needed. I think generalizing it to only how one class is more effected is a narrow minded and shallow approach to the problem in general which was entirely wrong.

My point is that everything should be equal and discrimination is not needed towards male or female. Yes regular society isn’t that way or we wouldn’t have petty discrimination going on here. That doesn’t mean it is right though and it should be “ok” to do it. It isn’t that far fetched and you should be able to read black and white on it. I would hope that if you have any sort of college education you would be able to grasp it and I don’t know why you need to turn your debates into a sociological lecture because you aren’t proving anything other than you like to “generalize” people into classes instead of trying to treat them as your equals. I know how “general” society works and I know what I don’t agree with about it. I don’t need someone trying to convince me of what my opinion of it is.

Stop making excuses and generalizing and be a “grown up male gamer”. LOL

nab: i’m glad to see we just missunderstod each other. Because we did. i’m on your side. My summary of the problems in society was not in defense of them, but an attempt to get you to understand. I dont even want to try to dig in where we got off on the wrong foot, but I think you in your original comment was somehow negative towards commenter “disappointed”, that she thought she was above others, and that in combination with something more made me think you were one of those people being in their own minds “anti feministic” but for equal rights and that generally dont like the idea of discrimination being defined in structures, or any other theory on the subject because they associate it with radical feminists. And often just all in all dont really want women and men to change, when it comes down to it. Anyway - no damage done :)

You guys looked like you had some awesome times and the event looked amazing! Well done guys :D Also double thumbs up for the Becks!

As for this whole rant going on in the comment section, this isn’t the place for your Emo tears! Seriously, your just the 10% of female gamers that want to rant and rave about a male dominant field and cry out that special arangements should be made because your a girl. This event is a PERFECT example of male and female gamers coming together to enjoy an awesome event. And the girl at the event stripping actually had the balls to do it, same as the guys. Now stop trying to act as if your discriminated against because your a girl or go do something more girly where you wont feel “opressed”.

When it comes down to it I want it to change, but it is a two way street. I got on to disappointed because she wants to sell it as a one way street. There should be no biases one way or the other and to say one way of discrimination is “ok” and the other isn’t in my mind isn’t an attitude to take. If you want someone to hear you opinions and consider them valid say that discrimination against men and women is bad as a whole not this half approach that only protects you.

All I saw in her argument was discrimination against women is wrong and with men it is “ok”. I didn’t see anything where it said they should have stopped the men from stripping and when someone brought it up she tried to make it into a totally different issue that men being discriminated and encouraged to strip is totally different from women. Yea it is totally different isn’t it, and men aren’t turned off by that at all or upset over it? LOL (Sarcasm) I just don’t see that and I think it should be both are the same, distasteful, and shouldn’t be done. Discrimination in general is wrong it shouldn’t matter the gender, or ethnicity and that is what I was trying to point out. We want to strive for equality for everyone and I don’t think her arguments were going about it in the right way more or less she was playing on sexist views and trying to making things unequal and indifferent.

I just find it hilarious people want to preach this stuff, but practice bigotry in expressing their view points to others. That is my entire view point and why I jumped on disappointed’s case. There is no half way approach or one way to solve the problem. It is a two way street, and everyone should strive to make equality in general two sides to the coin and not just one.

I must play devil’s advocate here. People only mentioned it briefly here, but, basically, morals are exactly the same as opinions. They differ from person to person. Saying that stripping is wrong is an opinion. It is the same as saying that Sacrificing your life to kill infidels is holy, hell, even that God definately exists. All of these statements rely upon faith and/or personal preference of thought. Discrimination happens and will ALWAYS happen. As long as there are two people who are different in the world, they will form prejudices and generalizations about the other. That seems to be how our minds work. Even if you look down upon dicrimination, you yourself discriminate against the people who advocate stripping by saying that they are in the wrong. Such is life.
This brings us to my main point. It was the strippers’ wills to do such a thing and it happened. Nothing can be done now, and arguing in this venue is a moot point. Most likely it will happen again. As long as people desire it, such actions will continue. Looking down upon people and getting worked up and angry only serves to raise your blood pressure and probably cause you a quicker death.

    To disappointed,
You know, its things like what you say that ruin the fun for people. Plain and simple, if something makes you feel uneasy, leave. That girl is a big girl and can make desicions for herself, if she wants to strip down to a bra, thats her choice to be skandelous. Get morem competitive female gamers out there, and if you girls choose to have a guy drop down to his boxers, thats your choice. Don’t be such a prude, and if something happens that you don’t like, you can leave. It is your freedom to be where you want, and if where you are make you uneasy, you hear something you don’t like, see something you don’t like, you have options. You can leave, not watch, or not listen and go else where, don’t be so negative about an event where people did nothing but have a good time, and why do you even care, you were not even there. Don’t ruin people’s FREEDOMs!

Looks like you had a good bit of fun. Love your products so far. Don’t care if there were half naked females or whatever…. it don’t matter. Keep making the kit you are….. and I will keep buying it. Barracudas are one of my best ever buys and my better half is getting me a Lachesis and a Tarantula for me birthday. Well thats what I said when she asked what I would like ;) and if she don’t I will be buying them anyway lol. Thanks and keep doing that good stuff.

People need to relax. As a part owner of a snowboard business (another primarliy male business) I can tell all of you that chicks in tradeshow booths is one of the best ideas a company can do. We have a booth in Vegas every year for the SIA (SnowSports Induntries America) we have had girls in our booth for 2 years and our booth has way more traffic than most. Who cares who took their clothes off. Our girls were making out for half of the time. Guys like girls. Bottom line if you like a product buy it..

PS I love my Deathadder and Turantuala keep the goods coming. you need to make a gaming keypad like the Ideazon Fang what gives?

For the most part, I’m going to have to agree with the guy gamers on this one.

Sex is a powerful advertising tool especially in the demographic the video game industry target, It is true that there are a growing number of female gamers, but they belong mostly to the larger growing category of casual gamers.

Razer sells largely to hardcore gamers, most of which are male. In addition, that woman has a choice to use whatever assets she has at her disposal to make a living. She could have also chosen to decline that job.

Mostly, what I’m trying to say is that its none of our business, and it shouldn’t effect the awesomeness of Razer products.
